(1) geochemical reaction models, (2) catchment-based transport models, (3) stochastic models, (4) time series analysis and signal processing, (5) spatial modelling with GIS, (6) semi-quantitative risk modelling and (7) digital terrain modelling and 3D modelling.
Numerical Modelling at GEM-RG: geochemical reaction modeling uses the PHREEQC model, catchment-based transport models uses the WATEM/SEDEM model, stochastic models use STATIGRAPHICS and SPSS software, time series analysis and signal processing uses MATLAB and STATIGRAPHICS software, ) spatial modelling with GIS uses ILWIS raster GIS, IDRISI raster GIS, ArcGIS vector GIS and SURFER software, risk modelling uses is carried out with GEM-RG software, digital terrain modelling uses ILWIS raster GIS and SURFER software, and 3D geological modelling is done with RockWorks software. Modelling works for GEOCHEMISTRY in a DECISION SUPPORT environment (contamination risk assessment).
Analog Modelling at GEM-RG uses laboratory leaching tests (static and kinetic tests) to model and assess toxic element mobility from mine waste and soils and sediments. Leaching tests are used to estimate human health toxicity in the respiratory and gastric systems.
The emphasis is on development and improvement of METHODS and methodologies for scientific research. For example, a novel Landscape Geochemistry methodology has been developed, or a consistent and elaborate digital terrain analysis (DTA) procedure.
Further modelling tools used: GlobalMapper, MINITAB, TOPAZ, Statistica, MapViewer, GEM-RG software for data processing and analysis (including Excel procedures).
